Mary Carey (born Mary Ellen Cook on June 15, 1980 in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American porn star and tongue-mostly-in-cheek politician. Her stage name comes from her passing resemblance to singer Mariah Carey.

Early life
Carey moved from Ohio to Florida when she was seven, and studied ballet and dance until she was 19 years old. She graduated in 1998 from the Pine Crest School, a Fort Lauderdale private preparatory school (alma mater of Kelsey Grammer and Wayne Huizenga). At 19, she joined her college dance team. After being part of the team for a year, she began working as an exotic dancer.
On The Daily Show, she revealed to correspondent Stephen Colbert that the reason she has never done a scene involving anal sex is that she has chronic gas problems and "likes to poop." She then passed gas while the camera was filming.[1][2]
On The Howard Stern Show, she revealed that her father has Cerebral Palsy and her mother has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
Porn film career
Shortly after becoming a sex worker, Carey entered the adult film industry as a featured entertainer. She is best known for her lesbian themed films. In addition to numerous adult movies, she has posed in adult magazines and has appeared in adult TV shows such as Totally Busted and Sexy Urban Legends on Playboy TV.
Much of her fan-base is due to her large breasts, and initially Carey claimed to have never received breast implants. Eventually, though, she admitted in her AVN Fresh off the Bus interview to having had a "boob job."[3] She does, however, continue to discourage other women from getting implants.
Carey worked for Kick Ass Pictures for nearly three years. In December 2005, she signed an exclusive 2-year, 12-video contract with the now-legally embattled and cash-strapped [4] Legend Video. [5]
2003 California Governor's race
During the 2003 California recall election, she was an independent candidate, placing tenth in a field of 135 candidates. She ran on a ten (later expanded to eleven) point platform, promising to:
- Legalize same-sex marriage
- Tax breast implants
- Make lap-dances tax deductible
- Wire the California Governor's Mansion with live web-cams
- Create a "Porn for Pistols" program to reduce the number of handguns
- Be a goodwill ambassador to attract business to the state
- Make those drawing unemployment insurance do jury duty for their pay
- Fight the attacks on the porn industry by John Ashcroft and the U.S. Department of Justice
- Allow bars to stay open until 4:00 A.M.
- Address the AIDS epidemic
In April 2005, she was arrested in connection with a Lakewood, Washington cabaret sting operation. She subsequently made a plea agreement and received a 19-month sentence, which was suspended on the condition that she was not charged with any other offense within one year.

Political ambitions
In June 2005, Carey announced her bid for Lieutenant Governor of California as an Independent in 2006. She also attended a GOP fund-raiser with the president of the company that produces her porn videos and announced that she is a Republican. Given her previous political record, however, it remains to be seen whether she (or Californians) will take her candidacy seriously. She would not be the first adult actress to win public office if her future bids are successful, as Italian porn-star Cicciolina was elected to the Italian Parliament.
Many members of the press had predicted that she might do something inappropriate at the Republican fund-raising dinner or arrive in inappropriate attire as a publicity stunt; however, she dressed formally for the occasion and did nothing inappropriate. Some, including Rev. Donald Wildmon of the American Family Association, believe that her new political affiliation with the Republican Party is an organized attempt to embarrass Republicans, by showing a porn actress in the same dining hall with President Bush.
She maintained on the FOX News Channel on the afternoon of March 16, 2006 that her porno films are not a negative to her political career, and maybe are even a positive. She implied that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and former Governor Reagan were helped in their political campaigns by their film careers. She also maintained that, unlike the films in which Schwarzenegger and Reagan starred, her films are about "love".
She has also said that she hopes to run for a major party (perhaps the GOP) nomination to be President of the United States, which is, of course, contingent upon her reaching the age of 35 per the minimum age requirement for United States presidents. [7] The first election for which she would be eligible would be the 2016 presidential election.
Carey, who announced in December that she had lost weight, replaced her teeth and acquired new, size 36-D breasts and on August 9, 2006, on the steps of the Los Angeles County elections office to launch her 2006 gubernatorial campaign[8].
